How to Treat or Cure Candidiasis

Introductory summary
How to treat candidiasis: right antifungal, trigger removed, recurrence workup - the complete sequence.
Treating candidiasis is usually simple: the right antifungal for the site, the trigger removed, and a plan if it recurs. Here is the whole sequence.
Step 1: Recognize and confirm
Typical first episodes (white wipeable mouth patches, itchy curd-like discharge, red fold-rash with satellite spots) can be treated on recognition. Get examined instead when: it is the first-ever vaginal episode and the diagnosis is uncertain, discharge is foul-smelling or colored (suggests other infection), fever or pelvic pain exists, you are pregnant, or episodes keep recurring.
Step 2: Treat the episode
- Skin folds: clotrimazole/miconazole cream 1-2 weeks + keep dry
- Oral thrush: mouth paint/gel; babies get nystatin drops; inhaler and denture triggers fixed the same day
- Vaginal: pessary course or single fluconazole tablet; in pregnancy, pessaries only, under advice
- Expect real improvement within 2-3 days; complete the full course anyway
Step 3: Remove the brake that failed
Same week, not someday: check recent antibiotics, review steroid inhaler technique, clean the dentures, and - for recurrence - test blood sugar and consider immunity review. This step is what separates "treated" from "cured."
Step 4: If it recurs or resists
- Culture the discharge or patch: non-albicans species need different drugs
- Longer induction + maintenance antifungal plans exist for recurrent vaginal candidiasis (weekly fluconazole for months is a standard, prescribed option)
- Investigate the terrain properly: HbA1c, HIV test where relevant, medicine review
Step 5: Deep disease
Painful swallowing with thrush, candidiasis with fever in an immunocompromised or hospitalized person: hospital evaluation - invasive candidiasis is treated intravenously and urgently.
The classical layer
Classical local care (neem-triphala washes, yoni varti, kavala) and the anti-kapha diet support comfort and recurrence prevention - as adjuncts alongside the antifungal plan, from a qualified vaidya, never as the episode's only treatment.
One-line summary
Right antifungal, full course, trigger removed same week; recurrence means culture plus sugar-and-immunity workup; deep symptoms mean hospital - simple done properly.
