Medicines for Cataract

Introductory summary
No drop or medicine dissolves a cataract - surgery's IOL cures. What drops legitimately do, and the marketing minefield to avoid.
The blunt truth first: no medicine - modern, Ayurvedic or otherwise - dissolves or reverses a cataract. Surgery is the only cure. Here is what medicines and products actually do in cataract care.
What does NOT work (the marketing minefield)
- "Cataract-dissolving" eye drops: sold aggressively online and at counters; none are proven to clear a cataract; some are irritants
- Herbal courses promising to melt cataracts
- Antioxidant mega-supplements claiming reversal: at best, diet-level antioxidants may slow aging; they do not un-cloud a lens
- Money spent here is the surgery postponed - that is the real cost
What medicines legitimately do
- Dilating drops before examination and surgery: diagnostic and surgical tools, not treatment
- Pre- and post-surgery eye drops: antibiotic and anti-inflammatory drops around the operation - these protect the result; use exactly as prescribed
- Tear substitutes: for the dry-eye discomfort that often coexists in older adults
- Underlying-condition medicines: diabetes control medicines are cataract-slowing medicines
The actual treatment product: the IOL
The "product" that cures cataract is the artificial lens (intraocular lens) implanted at surgery. Options - monofocal, toric (astigmatism-correcting), multifocal - trade spectacle-independence for cost; the surgeon matches lens to eye and life. Government and eye-camp programs provide standard IOLs free or nearly free; premium lenses are a choice, not a requirement.
The classical preparations, honestly placed
Classical netra preparations (tarpana ghritas, anjanas, Triphala ghrita) belong - if used at all - in the early-timira support lane and general eye care, with a qualified vaidya, alongside (never instead of) the eye surgeon's timeline. The classics themselves sent the mature cataract to surgery; their preparations carry no dissolve claim here.
One-line summary
Drops prepare and protect around surgery; the IOL inside surgery cures; and every rupee on "dissolving drops" is a rupee of delay - no exception, no system.
