Home Remedies for Dental Caries

Introductory summary
Fluoride toothpaste twice daily, salt-water rinses, clove oil for temporary pain, oil pulling as honest adjunct - no home remedy fills a hole.
Honest home care for tooth decay has two speeds: what genuinely helps, and the famous remedies that cannot do what they promise. Both lists matter.
What genuinely helps at home
- Fluoride toothpaste, twice daily: the single most powerful home remedy that exists for caries - it re-mineralises early spots and slows everything else. Spit, do not rinse hard after brushing
- Salt-water rinse: warm, half a teaspoon of salt in a glass - soothes gum irritation and keeps a sore area clean
- Clove (laung) oil: one drop on cotton held on the painful tooth - genuinely numbing (eugenol), a respectable TEMPORARY pain reliever until the dentist
- Oil pulling (gandusha): swishing sesame or coconut oil 5-10 minutes - traditional, pleasant, some small studies show plaque reduction; honest frame: an ADJUNCT to brushing, never a replacement
- Cold compress on the cheek for swelling-related discomfort while awaiting care
- Paracetamol or ibuprofen for dental pain - safe, effective, and fine to use while arranging the dental visit
What home remedies CANNOT do
- No remedy regrows a cavitated hole. Once enamel has collapsed, the lost structure never returns - only a filling restores it
- Turmeric, garlic, guava leaves, charcoal powders and the rest may soothe or clean; none of them stops established decay
- "Healing cavities with diet alone" applies only to the pre-cavity white-spot stage - not to actual holes
When home care ends
Pain lasting more than a day or two, pain on biting, night pain, a gum boil, facial swelling or fever: the dentist, promptly. Clove oil buys comfort for the journey - it does not treat the infection.
One-line summary
Real home remedies for caries are fluoride toothpaste twice daily, salt-water rinses, clove oil for temporary pain and oil pulling as an honest adjunct - but no home remedy fills a hole, and pain that lingers belongs to the dentist.
