Home remedies for ulcer

Introductory summary
No home remedy cures an ulcer - but small frequent meals, avoiding painkillers, quitting smoking and alcohol, and limiting strong tea/coffee genuinely ease symptoms while medical treatment works.
Home remedies for ulcer
Start with the non-negotiable: home remedies cannot cure a peptic ulcer. If H. pylori is present, only antibiotics eradicate it; if painkillers caused it, only stopping them (under medical guidance) removes the cause. What home measures do well is reduce symptoms and support healing while proper treatment works.
What genuinely helps:
- Small, frequent meals - an overfilled stomach produces more acid; 5-6 light meals beat 2-3 heavy ones during symptoms
- Cold milk or curd (if tolerated) - the traditional glass of cold milk does buffer acid briefly and eases burning; do not over-rely on it, since milk also stimulates some acid later
- Bananas - soft, gentle, and traditionally soothing
- Coconut water and thin rice gruel (ganji) - light and calming
- Stop self-medicated painkillers - the single most powerful "home remedy" for NSAID ulcers; ask your doctor for a stomach-safe alternative for your pain problem instead of just suffering or just popping pills
- Quit smoking and alcohol - both delay healing; there is no moderate version during an active ulcer
- Cut back strong tea, coffee and very spicy food while symptomatic - they provoke burning
- Eat dinner 2-3 hours before bed and avoid lying down right after meals
- Manage stress - it does not cause ulcers, but it amplifies the perception of pain and worsens habits
What to avoid at home: aspirin/diclofenac/ibuprofen on your own, "kadha" mixtures taken alongside medicines without telling the doctor, and prolonged self-treatment with antacids beyond 2 weeks without a diagnosis.
Danger signs - never home-treat these: vomiting blood, black tarry stools, sudden severe abdominal pain, fainting, or persistent vomiting. Call 112.
Remember: small meals, no painkillers, no smoke or alcohol, light soothing foods - that is the honest home kit. The cure itself comes from the H. pylori test and the prescribed course.
Ayurvedic view (interpretive)
Traditional pitta-calming home foods - milk, rice gruel, banana - align with what modern supportive care recommends. Their role is comfort and habit repair, not eradication of the cause.
