Prevention of warts

Introductory summary
Slippers at the pool, no shared towels and razors, no picking - plus the HPV vaccine for genital types.
Warts are preventable to a useful degree - the virus needs contact and a skin opening, and both can be reduced with simple habits.
Block the contact routes. Do not share towels, razors, nail clippers, socks or footwear. Wear slippers or flip-flops in swimming pools, communal showers and gym changing rooms - the classic plantar-wart pickup zones. In the salon, ensure instruments are clean; avoid sharing pedicure tools.
Protect the skin barrier. The virus enters through breaks: stop nail-biting and cuticle-picking, moisturize cracked heels and hands, cover cuts, and treat eczema flares that open the barrier. Dry feet well after bathing; sweaty, macerated skin invites infection.
Do not spread your own wart. Keep it covered, do not scratch, pick or shave over it (shaving spreads flat warts along razor lines), use a dedicated pumice/nail file for it, and wash hands after touching or treating it.
For genital HPV: vaccination is the powerful preventive - the HPV vaccine (ideally before sexual debut, catch-up per medical advice into the 20s and beyond per guidelines) prevents the main genital wart and cervical-cancer HPV types. Barrier protection reduces but does not eliminate transmission. Regular cervical screening for women catches the consequences early.
Immunity as prevention. General immune health - sleep, nutrition, managing conditions like diabetes - influences who develops persistent warts. People on immune-suppressing medicines should mention any new growth to their doctor early.
What does not prevent warts: avoiding toads (myth), special soaps, antiseptic obsession, or food rules.
Ayurvedic view (interpretive): classical prevention emphasizes hygiene and skin integrity - compatible with the above within an interpretive framework of limited evidence. The contact-and-barrier measures and the HPV vaccine carry the proven weight.
Remember: slippers at the pool, no shared towels and razors, no nail-biting or wart-picking, covered and moisturized skin - plus the HPV vaccine for the genital types and regular cervical screening.
