How to Treat or Cure Fungal Infection

Introductory summary
Fungal infections can be cured. A stepwise guide from diagnosis to follow-up.
Most fungal infections can be cured with the right antifungal treatment, taken for long enough. Home care only supports it.
Step 1: Confirm the diagnosis
Rashes like eczema, psoriasis and allergy can look like ringworm. A doctor can examine the skin and, if needed, do a skin scraping or nail test.
Step 2: Choose the right treatment
- Mild skin infection: topical antifungal cream or lotion
- Scalp, nail, widespread or stubborn infection: oral antifungal tablets on prescription
- Mouth or genital candidiasis: specific antifungal gel, lozenges or tablets
- Deep or invasive infection: hospital treatment
Step 3: Use medicine properly
- Apply to the rash and a margin of healthy skin.
- Continue for as long as advised, even after the itching stops.
- Do not use steroid-antifungal combination creams unless a doctor prescribes them.
Step 4: Support with hygiene
- Keep skin dry and clean
- Wear loose cotton
- Wash towels and bedding in hot water
- Do not share personal items
Step 5: Treat the cause
Control diabetes, review long-term steroid or antibiotic use, and treat close contacts and pets if advised.
Step 6: Follow up
Review if there is no improvement in two weeks, or if the infection returns.
Expected recovery
Skin infections often clear in two to four weeks. Nail infections can take months because nails grow slowly.
What to avoid
Home pastes, leftover creams, and stopping early.
Ayurvedic support
Ayurvedic diet and routine advice can be an adjunct, but should not replace antifungal medicine.
See a doctor
Fever, spreading painful rash or weak immunity need prompt review.
